Love these guys - all very helpful and easy to talk to staff. Store has just the right amount of everything you need. Such a better place than going to the big box stores.

Staff is very nice and decent prices for nice wood in the lumber dept. I needed four slabs of 4x8 plywood cut up into several specific pieces and they helped very well with that task. Very happy with the final result.

The employees at this place clearly enjoy their work. They're knowledgeable, helpful, and patient, and that's been a consistent thing over the decades (the store's been in business since 1961). In a recent example: we bought a new kitchen faucet, and while we were installing it, one of the pieces became trapped inside another. Two sweaty hours later we gave up, brought it back to DB, and asked for help. A staffer there took the contraption aside and rescued it, saving us the $130 we feared we might have to spend on another one.

The incredible staff makes Discount Builders my favorite store in all of San Francisco. Everyone who helped me was amazing, but Neil is hands down, the most valuable DIY resource in the entire Bay Area. Helped me avert a plumbing emergency call and get us up and running again with every part we needed, including sourcing some at other local shops complete with a handout with phone numbers and addresses to find which Ace has it in stock. All this just working from photos of what we need. So incredibly thankful.

I love this hardware store. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and always looking to help, you don't even have to ask which is quite refreshing from shopping at Home Depot or Lowe's. Prices are fairly reasonable as well.

Catherine was wonderful to work on my kitchen cabinet order. She was very informative and consistently followed up with me making sure my order was at my specifications. She even did a follow up call making sure I had all the proper information. Her service blew away anything I ever received at other big brand home improvement/ contractor stores. I didn’t have a lot of the answers that Catherine needed at first, but she worked with me and found every answer in the end. I definitely recommend Discount Builders Supply & Hardware. They hire good staff and had everything I needed in stock.

Went by the other day to get a pallet and some tools to make an herb garden for my mom. I don’t look like the typical hardware store customer so am used to being treated differently when in stores like this but that was absolutely not the case at all here. Everyone was so kind and helpful especially Frank Kaye who went out of his way to dig through pallets with me (in the hot sun) and was nice enough to load it into my car for me too. Because of his generosity I had the best day ever building the herb pallet with my best friend and my mom loves it. I will be coming back!

Amazing experience at Discount Builders Supply & Hardware! I went in struggling to deal with a leaking kitchen sink and plumbing parts, and Neil immediately saw how overwhelmed I was. He didn’t just point me in the right direction — he went above and beyond. He explained all the different components clearly, helped me understand what I needed, and even selected and cut the right parts for me. What would have been a multi-hour search turned into a quick, streamlined visit thanks to his expertise and patience. Truly appreciated the help, and I’ll definitely be coming back here for all my future projects.

5 Stars! I had an excellent experience at Discount Builders Supply & Hardware. Bob in the lumber department helped me select the right wood for my project and carefully cut it to the correct size. He was patient, knowledgeable, and very professional. Austin in the paint department was also fantastic. He helped me pick up the additional items I needed to finish the job and made the whole process smooth and easy. Great service from both of them — I truly appreciate the help.
